Klimt Experience - Locarno (CH)

.

We had high expectations for this temporary exhibition about Gustav Klimt in Locarno (CH) but.. once again, I was disappointed by the way art is displayed to the "general public" (i.e. non-experts and people not usually dealing with art, just like me).

  • Room 1: some paintings (actually prints) and a lot of text.. how can you think that a normal visitor will read all of that without getting bored?
  • Room 2: nice multimedia room with "immersive" effects (ok-ish) but really, really slow video/storyline. We stayed in for 20 minutes hoping that something cool would come but.. it didn't. We got quite bored and we moved on.. it would have been so easy to make it shorter but more "intense"
  • Room 3: "Mirror room". I had high expectations and this was possibly the biggest disappointment. Small room, mirrors only on the wall, dirty surfaces (so you could clearly see the glass), nothing special being displayed. Really.. disappointing.
  • Room 4: VR experience. You get goggles and you "dive" into 4 paitings. Nice idea, video was ok but the resolution was low.. you could almost see the pixels..

That's it. 20 CHF is not a high price, but for sure it didn't meet our expectations... and once again I had the feeling that the opportunity of showing some arts was not really exploited well.. pity!
