Focus, Learning & Wellbeing

.

Some (not all) evidence-based takeaways:

  • Get natural light in the morning
  • Protect time for deep, focused work and minimize distractions.
  • Use active learning
  • Exercise regularly
  • Walk / take real breaks when mentally stuck (or come and talk to me!)
  • Controlled breathing can help reduce acute stress
  • Keep a reasonably consistent sleep/wake schedule

Other messages are maybe less "evidence-based", e.g. the “90-minute focus cycle” (not a universal scientifically established rule). Some numbers are exaggerated/misquoted.. but all in all most practical habits are really good!

In alignment with its core objective of advancing the cause of safe mountaineering practices, the UIAA is diligently aggregating a repository of all previously published documents on this subject matter.
